Douarnenez area has attracted artists since the 19th century, drawn by its beautiful bay, the light and the spendid colours. Many famous names have stayed or even lived here, including Sérusier, Boudin, Renoir, Maufra, Picabia and the great Picasso.

Bretagne mystique

There are many megalithic monuments in the countryside around Douarnenez.

One example is the Gallery Grave of Lesconil, it is said to date from around 4500 BC, its self-supporting structure is quite rare in this region.

There is a small car park where you can leave your vehicle, then you simply follow the little path to the woodland.

Bretagne maritime

Douarnenez is known for its pleasant location and warm climate, and also because of its marinas, maritime museum, regattas and sandy beaches. 

The Port-musée is a must-see when you come to Douarnenez, as it’s the only museum of its kind in France. 

You’ll find 8 boats floating in the harbour just outside the museum, including 5 that you can board and explore.

Bretagne historique

Classified as a Historic Monument since 1924, Locronan is one of the most prestigious sites in Brittany, due to its architectural quality. 5km from the sea, Locronan is also the starting point for many walks and  bike trails.

A true land of inspiration for artists, painters, writers, sculptors or film makers, the charm of this small Breton setting never leaves you indifferent.
